Supporting Harmonious Relations through Using Buddhist Principles to Conduct Process Groups

Susan Nimmanheminda, received her PhD in psychoanalysis from the International University of Graduate Studies and her MSW from the University of Denver.

Dr. Nimmanheminda is a member of the MA Contemplative Counseling Psychology faculty and Leadership Team at Naropa University where she and others have developed a model that integrates Buddhist mindfulness practices with group dynamic principles. In her position at Naropa she currently teaches clinical courses and supervises the Group Process Leaders. Dr. Nimmanheminda has presented several times at the American Group Psychotherapy Association's annual meeting on the relationship between Buddhism and group therapy. Her professional publications include the following articles: The Talking Cure or What Good is Talking?, Buddhist Mindfulness Practice in Group Therapy; and Adolescent Acting Out within Group Psychotherapy. She is also a co-editor of Brilliant Sanity: Buddhist Approaches to Psychotherapy.

Dr. Nimmanheminda is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Certified Addictions Counselor, and a Nationally Certified Psychoanalyst. She has been practicing psychotherapy with adolescents and adults in Boulder, Colorado for over twenty years working with them as individuals, couples and in groups. Her counseling style is relational and psychodynamic.
