Last February, International Council for Day of Vesak (ICDV) Chief by The Most Ven. Prof. Dr. Phra Dharmakosajarn hosted by the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University along with 40 councils of International Council for Day of Vesak (ICDV) from 13 countries had meet for the International Council for Day of Vesak (ICDV) conference for the celebration of the 9th United Nations Day of Vesak. The conference and celebrations are expected to draw a gathering of 5,000 people - including leading scholars and Buddhist leaders from all of the Buddhist traditions around the world.
The main purposes for this Vesak Celebration Day (B.E. 2555) 2012
(1) International Council for Day of Vesak (ICDV) has decided that 2012 (BE 2555) United Nations Day of Vesak celebration will be a special occasion celebrating 2600 Sambuddha Jayanti
(2) The 80th Birthday Anniversary of Her Majesty the Queen and the 60th Birthday of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince
(3) Partnership and cooperation among Buddhist communities and Buddhist organizations from ASEAN to the international level by government policy
(4) Collaborate with the option of using religion for the benefit of mankind.
The theme for the 2012 celebrations shall be Buddha's Enlightenment for the Well-Being of Humanity.

The celebration of the 9th United Nations Day of Vesak will be held from 31 May to 2 June 2012 (B.E.2555). The opening ceremony will run from 31 may to 1 June 2012 and the international seminar will be held at Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. For closing ceremony will be on the 2nd June 2012 and will be held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok after that will move to Phutthamonthon for triple circumambulation. http://www.icundv.com/vesak2012"

In addition, the Sangha Supreme Council has approved and celebrated to commemorate the 2,600th anniversary of Buddha's Enlightenment. Therefore, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU) will be take place as a host for this event under the support of the Sangha and the Thai government.
