On 3 April 2012, the Most Ven. Prof. Dr. Phra Dharmakosajarn, the Rector of Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU), as the President of the Committee for the World Vesak Association, was the Chairman of 2012 World Vesak Committee Meeting at the Rector Building, Wangnoi District, Ayutthaya Province. The attandance consists of the Vice Rectors of Administration, Planning & Development, Student Affairs, and Foreign Affairs, with the Vice Rector Academic Affairs as the Meeting Secretary; together with Assistant to the Rector, Office Directors, Department Directors and the Operational Department Staff of more than 80 monks/laymen.



The Most Ven. Prof. Dr. Phra Dharmakosajarn said, “The organizing of this year Celebration is much more special than the past years as this year is Buddhajayanti, the auspicious 2600 years of Buddha’s Enlightenment. Hence, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (MCU) as being trusted by the Thai Government and the Great Sangha Council as the main Operator in arranging the joint International Committees together with the National Buddhist Office, the Governmental Administrative Religious Department, the Ministry of Culture and other associate members, both monks and laymen are then requested for lavishing both physical and mental energies in order to welcome the Buddhists from around the world, who are coming to join the honorable Celebration with the Thai Buddhists.” While Ven. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phra Sigambhirayan, the Vice Rector of Academic Affairs, as the Meeting Secretary for organizing the event, said, “the essence of today Meeting consists of the appointment of the Committees in various sections; i.e. ceremonies, welcoming, academics, welfare, and public relations; including the consideration for approval of each section’s responsibilities in organizing the 9th World Vesak Day during 31 May-2 June 2012. The Secretariat of this Meeting has invited the Buddhists worldwide to join the auspicious Celebration in accordance with the Meeting resolution among the International Committees, more than 85 countries, with the amount of more than 5,000 monks/laymen.”



The important activities in the organizing of this year Celebration consist of the ceremony of Buddhajayanti : the auspicious 2600 years of Buddha’s Enlightenment at the United Nations; Rajadamnoen-nok Road, the Sacred Buddhist Verses Chanting; the joining of the walking with lighted candles at Buddhamonthon; the conferences of the International Association Buddhist Universities; the International Research Conferences; the conference of the World Buddhist University (WBU); and the Cultural Shows from 16 countries.
