I am born and brought up in the central region of India, Madhya Pradesh. I had been attached to Buddhism since my higher school times partly because my Parents involvement. However in my college days especially during higher studies I got fully involved in the Buddhist and Dalit movement after reading the available books on Buddhism and Dalit issues. I did my M.Phil. in Social Sciences on ‘Bodhgaya Liberation Movement’ from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar National of Social Sciences, Mhow (MP). Submitted my PhD to the same institute. The title of my thesis was ‘Critical Evaluation of Ambedkar’s Perspective on Caste and its Socio-Political Implications in Present India.’

Being active in Buddhist Movement took part in various activities; also for a short time interpreted English Dhammachari Subhuti’s talks in Hindi and took workshops for propagation of the Buddhism. As a Buddhist representative I presented the problems of Indian Buddhists before ‘UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of religion or belief’ on February 19, 2013 at New Delhi.

My research papers, articles and opinions have been published in some known national and international journals and newspapers. I am currently working as a Researcher in the Department of Dalit Studies at Indian Social Institute, New Delhi and involved in a study ‘Discrimination and Exclusion in Education of the students of Scavenger Community.’

Dr. Anna King

Anna King is University Reader in Theology, Religious Studies and Philosophy, and attached to the Winchester Centre of Religions for Reconciliation and Peace (WCRRP). After a first degree in modern history, she followed the then traditional course of study in social anthropology in Oxford University at the Institute of Social Anthropology (now Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology). She took the diploma course in Social Anthropology, followed by the M.Litt. and D.Phil., and also studied Hindi at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Cambridge University.

She specialised in the ethnography of South Asia and the study of religions, carrying out several periods of field investigation in India. She subsequently became the director of an interdisciplinary multicultural/antiracist project in the Department of Education, Cambridge University. Anna is the founder and now co-editor of Religions of South Asia (RoSA), an international journal published three times a year by Equinox. She was also the Convenor and Chair of the Spalding Symposium on Indian Religions for fifteen years (1999-2014). She is the contributing editor of three books, and the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles. She was the research consultant for LEAP, a documentary film on religious experience, and Sacred Journey, a film on the Kumbha Mela. With Dr Mark Owen, Director of WCRRP, she is engaged in a five-year research project with Nepali partners on the peace process and religious peacebuilding in Nepal.

Dr. Kirtiraj Dadarao is a Social Work graduate’s form Tata Institute of Social Sciences in 1995, Mumbai and obtained his doctoral degree from University of Pune in the year 2008 on ‘Impact of Globalization on Neo-Buddhist Community in Maharashtra. Dr. Kirtiraj Dadarao working as a Associate Professor in faculty of social Work at Bharti Vidyapeeth Deemed University since 1995 and is also working as recognized research guide for Ph.D students in social Work. However, his area of intrest has always been the engaged Buddhism and Buddhist philosophy and practice. He has published a book, ‘Globalization: Buddhist Perspective’ and several research articles in edited books on issues related to Dalits and Buddhist community in Maharashtra state. Dr. Kirtiraj Dadarao ,participated and presented his research papers in several countries including, UK, Srilanka, Iran, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Singapore during the last five years.

At present Dr. Kirtiraj Dadarao involved in institutional work to strengthen the Socio-religious and political movement of Dalits converted into Buddhism (Neo-Buddhist). He believe that Buddha was the first democrat in the world who led a legitimate fight against the oppressions of the poor and marginalized sections of the society so as to establish a free society based on the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity. Apart from the academic short term courses Dr. Kirtiraj Dadarao has engaged with the people at the community level by organizing awareness camps on current Dalit-Buddhist issues, Sunday Dhamma Schools for children in the age group 10-14 and youth’s camp for the youths in the age group 15-25. In all these progammes problems of oppressed community and its possible solution within the framework of human Right discourse is an important component.

Dr. Wasantha Priyadarshana pursued Buddhist Studies, Counseling and Yoga. He obtained his Ph.D. in the discipline of Buddhist Psychotherapy at the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies – University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka. He is lecturing Buddhist Psychotherapy at the Postgraduate Institute of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Kelaniya. He is also a visiting lecturer to the leading universities in Sri Lanka and the International Buddhist College (IBC) in Thailand and IBC affiliated Education Centre of Than Hsiamg Temple in Malaysia. He is also a professional psychologist counselor and conducting various programmes related to Buddhist Psychotherapy.

Venerable Dr Mahinda Deegalle is NEH Professor in the Humanities at the Department of Religion, Colgate University, USA and Reader in Religious Studies and Ethics at the School of Historical and Cultural Studies at Bath Spa University, UK. He is a managing committee member of the Spalding Symposium on Indian Religions and has served in the Steering Committee of the Buddhism Section of the American Academy of Religion and the committee of the United Kingdom Association for Buddhist Studies. He is the former editor of the journal of Buddhist-Christian Studies and the former book review editor for Buddhist Studies Review and H-Buddhism. He is the author of Popularizing Buddhism: Preaching as Performance in Sri Lanka (State University of New York Press, 2006), the editor of Dharma to the UK: A Centennial Celebration of Buddhist Legacy (World Buddhist Foundation, 2008), Buddhism, Conflict and Violence in Modern Sri Lanka (Routledge, 2006), and the co-editor of Pali Buddhism (Curzon, 1996). Ven. Karagaswewe Wajira presently works as a temporary lecturer in the Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. He studied the Pali language program for the B.A. Special Degree in English medium and obtained his first degree with second upper class division in order of merit. Nowadays he is reading for Master of Philosophy.

Rev. John Scorsine

Rev. Scorsine was ordained as a Buddhist Minister in 2009 through the International Order of Buddhist Ministers and the Los Angeles Buddhist Union. John serves as a volunteer chaplain within the Colorado Department of Corrections and has held that position since 2010. He is the founder of the Kanthaka Dharma Center and Animal Rescue. Mr. Scorsine, is a retired military officer and currently practices law in the Maceau Law Firm. He is the Firm’s senior litigator (barrister). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice; a Master of Arts in Buddhist Studies; and, a Juris Doctorate. John also volunteers as a firefighter and paramedic in his community and is interested in international disaster relief. He shares his Colorado farm with his spouse, Heather, and has one daughter, Jennifer, and a new grandchild, Memphis.

Brian Daizen Victoria is a native of Omaha, Nebraska and a 1961 graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska. He holds a M.A. in Buddhist Studies from Sötö Zen sect-affiliated Komazawa University in Tokyo, and a Ph.D. from the Department of Religious Studies at Temple University.

In addition to a 2nd, enlarged edition of Zen At War (Rowman & Littlefield, 2006), Brian's major writings include Zen War Stories (RoutledgeCurzon, 2003); an autobiographical work in Japanese entitled Gaijin de ari, Zen bozu de ari (As a Foreigner, As a Zen Priest), published by San-ichi Shobo in 1971; Zen Master Dögen, coauthored with Prof. Yokoi Yühö of Aichi-gakuin University (Weatherhill, 1976); and a translation of The Zen Life by Sato Koji (Weatherhill, 1972). In addition, Brian has published numerous journal articles, focusing on the relationship of not only Buddhism but religion in general, to violence and warfare.

From 2005 to 2013 Brian was a professor of Japanese Studies and director of the AEA "Japan and Its Buddhist Traditions Program" at Antioch University in Yellow Springs, OH. Currently he is a Visiting Research Fellow at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies in Kyoto, Japan where he is writing a book tentatively entitled: Zen Terror in 1930s Japan. Brian is also a Fellow of the Oxford Center for Buddhist Studies at Oxford University and a fully ordained Buddhist priest in the Sötö Zen sect.
